Cumbria South Lakes Informal Social - Friday 27th Sep 2024, Grange-over-Sands Golf Club, Cumbria. Carter Croft (FN 60-65) has sent the following report. Paul Haywood (SH 60-65) offered this venue and a wholesome meal, all for £15.00. The Grange over Sands Social Evening turned out to be a huge success. We were looked after by four volunteers, who produced a lively reception followed by a meal of steak pie or pasta and a choice of dessert of apple crumble, or Eton mess. The atmosphere and banter were lively. The invitation of partners to OSB events is without doubt the way forward, with everyone integrating and mixing brilliantly. This branch is fast developing into a strong friendship group.
I was able to read a letter from the Headmaster, who apologised for not being able to attend, giving a positive message for the immediate future of the school. The highlight of the evening was a very entertaining speech from the President, Darryl Davies, who outlined his intentions for his tenure, including encouraging the more recent alumni to connect with the Society. He also spoke of his efforts to involve more females, who, after all, make up over half of today’s membership.
Our new President's message is all about networking and friendship, things which we can all work on. Those present were: David Cade (FS 59-64) and Sheila, John Croasdale (FS 70-75) and Deborah, Carter Croft (FN 60-65) and Lynda, Nick Curry (SH 60-66) and Vivienne, Darryl Davies (F 62-68) and Pat, Stephen Downham (G 61-65) and Kornelia, Malcolm Gow (SH 66-71), Paul Haywood (SH 60-65), Peter Lever (G 62-66) and Jane, Tim Melville (F 59-64), Mike Pemberton (SH 57-62), David Ward (FN 60-65) and Jenny. Late withdrawals were Nigel Davies (G 57-62), Marcus Swift (AC 83-90), Nancy and Freda (friends of David Paul), who were missed. I really appreciate and thank all for your support.
